87 vs. 09 ASEs

In the bast 3 months I just recently started buying ASEs. I have 2 rolls, one roll of 87 and one of 09. The 87 coins have a much more shiny finish than the 09. What accounts for the difference?

1986 thru 2009 ASE's:

Some years have different degrees of polished (shiney) surface, and
some years have different degrees of a burnished surface.

You'll also find that some have a bit wider rims so the green cap on a tube of 20 doesn't push completely down. So when seated, there's a gap between it and the top of the tube.

I know what you mean. I only have one '87 SAE in my collection but it appears to have a far more reflective surface than any of my other dates. It almost looks Proof Like next to the '08s and '09s. Maybe the mint was experimenting with polished dies back in '87 or something?

Re: 87 vs. 09 ASEs

Some folks favor shiney coins but I think burnished ASE's are more attractive (substantial looking).

That said, my favorite SAE's would always be the ones that are priced right - especially ithose that are priced "especially" right....if I bought 'em but alas I don't.

I just collect individual 1 oz. silver rounds that I think are attractive or interesting. Have accumulated 23 over the past few years.

Huge stash aye? The up-side is that I'm not concerned with storage issues that a lot of other folks reportedly must be.

When you're old and depending on social security, living costs eat most of the check up every month.

Do not feel too bad. I have a bad habit of disclosing part of my PM stash. I do not disclose the exact amount of how much gold and silver I own. Some GIM members (including myself) post pics of certain PM they bought. Nothing wrong with posting PM pics IMHO. I agree with TA in the fact that to not discuss the exact number of certain gold or silver coin that you own.
